Dr. G uses Silencer System to Treat Snoring and Sleep Apnea
Everyone needs a good nights sleep, but those who snore and suffer from sleep apnea are often deprived, along with their loved ones who are kept awake by the noise and worry. But breakthroughs in the treatment of snoring and sleep apnea are helping people sleep better, as well as improving their overall health. One device used by many dentists, including Dr. Vladimir Gashinsky, is the Silencer System.
With the Silencer System, breathing is made easy without the use of noisy machines and uncomfortable masks. This removable appliance is custom-made to fit in the mouth and its purpose is to prevent airway obstructions that cause snoring during the night.

U.S. Government Supports Phase out of Amalgam
Recently, the U.S. government announced its support of a phase down related to mercury amalgam fillings in the dental industry. This new development could result in the eventual elimination of mercury-based filings in the U.S. It is also considered a breakthrough for the mercury-free dentistry movement.
The amalgam debate is between the mercury-free dentistry movement and the pro-mercury faction, represented by the World Dental Federation and the American Dental Association. While it is early in the negotiation process, the groundwork for this phase out was set at a 2009 World Health Organization meeting. It appears that government representatives saw the wisdom in protecting children and fetuses from amalgam, and in educating the public about its potential dangers.

Non-Surgical Treatment for TMJ
TMJ stands for temporomandibular joint, which is the jaw. Therefore, TMJ Disorder is when the jaw does not function properly and causes pain. About 10 million Americans have been diagnosed with TMJ disorder, which includes grinding and clenching of the jaw during sleep. The activities result in headaches, chronic ear pain, sore teeth, stiff jaws, difficulty opening the mouth and jaw popping or clicking.
TMJ Disorder is not something people should learn to live with. There are ways to drastically reduce or eliminate TMJ pain, including non-surgical therapies that take only days to start working. On therapy is the use of a custom-made mouth guard that is worn at night. This guard is easy and comfortable to wear, and allows the patient to sleep better at night by eliminating teeth clenching and muscular irritation.

Mercury-Safe, Mercury-Free Dentistry
There is a difference between mercury-safe and mercury-free dentistry. While mercury-free dentists steer clear of mercury/silver amalgam fillings, mercury-safe dentists also follow specific protocols set by the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT).
These standards for mercury removal treatments ensure that patients get a safe, non-toxic removal of those fillings. In other words, mercury-safe dentists make sure that mercury vapors are filtered out of the air, and the grindings from removal never touch the gums, cheeks or floor of the mouth in patients.
Mercury-safe and mercury-free dentists fill the teeth of patients with biocompatible restorations that do not contain any mercury. The biocompatible materials are environmentally friendly and bond to the teeth, resulting in a strong tooth structure. In addition, these mercury-free materials reduce the risk for cracked and sensitive teeth.

How to Maintain Proper Oral Hygiene
The main problem with teeth is the build-up of plaque and tartar. Therefore, the best way to prevent decay and to maintain a healthy mouth is to do whatever it takes to remove the plaque. This involves brushing the teeth several times a day and flossing as a daily routine. In addition, those with good dental hygiene will visit the dentist at least twice a year, in addition to using dental services in emergency situations such as toothaches and chipped teeth.
Proper oral hygiene is necessary and should include teeth cleaning done by dentist or a dental hygienist. When the teeth get cleaned, extra plaque and tartar are removed, which means fewer cavities and a decreased likelihood of getting gum disease.

The Holistic Approach to Dentistry
Holistic medicine has caught on all over the world as people
experience the benefits of natural therapies, and appreciate the view that good health is not just about the body, but the mind and
spirit as well. The same is true for the holistic approach to dentistry, often times referred to as holistic dentistry or biological dentistry.
While traditional and general dentists treat symptoms specifically related to the mouth and gums, those who practice the holistic approach see the connection with the whole body. Therefore, holistic dentists deal with the causes, not just the symptoms. These same dentists practice mercury-free and mercury-safe dentistry to eliminate toxins shown to have a negative effect on the overall health of patients.
